How to go rogue (in a good way)(also 👋🏼 from the pages of WIRED)
Well SOMEONE has to hold the powerful accountable!
We live in chaotic times. The world around us is changing at breakneck speed—figuratively, with revolutionary advancements around technologies like AI, but also literally, with the terrifying advance of climate change. And the people in charge are… well, we don’t trust them.
Why should we? Sometimes it feels like corruption and greed have permeated every last corner of American life. It’s not only that the guy who sells cars is allegedly lining his pockets as he basically (somehow???) runs the government. Corporations are huge and powerful and can pretty much do whatever they want at this point: planes are falling from the sky; toxic waste shall be dumped into our water; and tech bros in Silicon Valley—and now Washington, D.C.—are building technologies that could very well spiral out of control within a matter of years.
The administration seems uninterested in stopping any of it. But, as insiders will tell you, sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands.
If the government—a body that exists to protect its citizens—isn’t going to put checks on companies in order to keep the people safe, then the people are going to have to do it themselves. By blowing the whistle when they see that plane manufacturers are taking shortcuts in order to save money, or when the government is lying about electoral interference, or when tech companies are enabling policies that are actively harming kids. To name just a few.
After that, well… it’s up to the rest of us to protect those insiders. Because people who have important information to share shouldn’t have to worry that doing so will ruin—or even threaten—their lives.
That’s what Psst is all about. Does it make us rogues??? According to WIRED, well, yeah, actually: according to them Psst is part of “a new and inspiring era of anti-establishment rebellion that’s taking root.” OR, also in their words:
“The idealistic rogues. The indefatigable rogues. The new iteration of blue-sky lunatics who can imagine what a better world should look like—and are willing to fight the status quo to get us there.”
It us. Oh, and yeah, we’re profiled in the Rogue Nation issue of WIRED this month! Check us out!!
