Announcing Psst.org, a new way for everyday people to keep the public informed.
For years, we've worked with whistleblowers and insiders who have shared nonpublic information the public needed to hear. In doing so, these everyday people kept us informed, made our world safer, held the powerful accountable, and sparked change.
As we’ve done this work, we’ve had a front row view of the playbook used by corporations and powerful people to shut down information they don’t want the world to know. We’ve also learned from experience how to counter these tactics, and how to keep people as safe as possible.
That’s why we founded Psst.org: a nonpartisan, nonprofit public service with a mission to make sure the public has safe, protected pathways to share concerns.
Introducing the Psst Safe: a secure place to deposit non-public information you think is of public concern.
The Safe is a secure and confidential information escrow for concerns insiders have within the tech industry and government.
Are you concerned about something at work that seems fraudulent? A dangerous policy? An AI product that you think has safety issues? A cover-up? Something that may or may not be illegal, but definitely seems wrong? Need advice about what to do, or wondering if others at your workplace are seeing the same thing?
Save the information in the Safe.
You decide what happens next. Wait and see if someone else deposits a similar concern, creating a “match”. Or, get a gut-check with one of our attorneys, to figure out if there’s a “there there.” Strategize with us about what, if anything, to do next. Adding information to the Safe does not mean you are a “whistleblower”, nor do you have to be. No one will see what you’ve shared unless you decide otherwise.
Should we find other information that matches yours and you want to go further, or you need help deciding whether to flag what you’re seeing more publicly, we support you by putting in place the legal, media, psychological and advocacy help you need. We help you come up with a smart strategy that fits your unique circumstances. We work with experienced journalists to do investigative stories based on information people decide they want shared, and where appropriate, publish firsthand, fact-checked first-person accounts on our website and social media channels as a means of amplifying public interest information, voices, and stories.
As more and more information is siloed within tech companies, and a lack of tech jobs makes it harder and harder for people to blow up their careers and lives to make a disclosure, the Safe becomes the answer to keeping the public informed without the need for the whistleblower as martyr.
We live in times of big change. New technologies are changing the world faster than regulation can keep up. Tech leaders hold powerful positions in government. Media companies are rushing to prepare for government subpoenas and investigations. Fact-checked, multiple-source news stories are branded as smear campaigns. Fact-check departments are being canned.
Come what may, Psst.org is a nonpartisan, nonprofit public service that is here to make sure the public has safe, protected pathways to share non-public information.
Together, by bringing together information behind the scenes and protecting the people who share it, we will bring more information to light at less cost to the individual.
So, if you see something, save something. Find out more at Psst.org, or speak to us on Signal at @PsstLegal.01 or email Psst@Psst.org.
Trust that we’re discreet. All conversations, confidential.
